My time at Chico State gave me many opportunities to gain experience in leadership and design skills. As the President of the Interior Architecture Club, I was responsible for managing the student organization, organizing events and workshops, and being a support system for the rest of the students in the program. I loved using my leadership skills to unite people and foster community within the club. This experience taught me valuable organizational and interpersonal skills that I now apply to all my work.
In addition to my involvement on campus, I volunteered to teach art to kids with autism. Working with these children was incredibly rewarding, and I loved being able to help them explore their creative side and express themselves through art. This experience showed me the power of design to make a difference in people's lives, which I carry with me as an interior architect.
Interior Architecture Club - President
2022 - 2023
As president, I organized several successful events and workshops that brought students together to learn and grow. Some of these events included guest lectures from industry professionals and hands-on workshops where students could learn new skills and techniques.
One of the things that I'm most proud of during my time as President was how I supported the rest of the students in the program. I made myself available to anyone who needed help with their coursework or someone to talk to about their struggles and successes. Being a part of the Interior Architecture Club was about more than just learning about design; it was about building a supportive community to help each other succeed.
Art For Autism
2023
During my last semester at Chico State, I had the opportunity to teach art classes to kids with autism. Teaching these classes required a unique approach, as the children I worked with often had different needs and abilities than other children their age.
I found that the key was to focus on the process of creating art rather than the end product. They could build confidence and enjoy creating by encouraging the children to explore different materials and techniques and allowing them to create freely without fear of judgment.
Working with these children was an incredibly humbling experience, and it taught me a lot about the power of design to make a difference in people's lives. It reinforced my belief that design should always be focused on creating spaces and experiences that are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone.
